New U.S. customs measures took effect on 24 July 2026 and may impact duty costs for imports into the United States
We would like to make you aware of an important U.S. trade policy change that came into effect on 24 July 2026, which may impact businesses shipping goods into the United States.
The changes follow the expiry of the previous Section 122 tariff measures and introduce new country-specific duties under Section 301 authority. The new measures apply to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse, on or after 24 July 2026.
What has changed?
Section 122 tariffs have ended
The temporary global tariffs previously applied under Section 122 expired on 24 July 2026 and, in many cases, have been replaced by new country-specific Section 301 duties.
New additional duties introduced
Additional import duties ranging from 10% to 12.5% now apply to imports from a number of economies.
Country and product-specific rules
A number of country-specific and product-specific exemptions apply, with separate provisions for certain markets and product categories.
What should you be doing now?
Given the potential impact on duty liability, landed costs and supply chain planning, we recommend reviewing your current and upcoming U.S.-bound shipments to understand whether these changes could affect your business.
Areas to consider include:
- Current U.S. import arrangements
- Product classifications and duty exposure
- Landed cost calculations
- Future inventory and fulfilment planning
- Existing customs and brokerage processes
